Voyages of Discovery Project – Challenge Wales

Challenge Wales addresses the personal development of young people through outdoor education – specifically sail training. Challenge Wales is Wales’ only Youth Sail Training organisation.

Their ‘Voyages of Discovery Project’ provided opportunities for young people from disadvantaged communities to engage voluntarily in many different areas of education and learning aboard boats, whilst having unimagined adventures and great fun!

Over 265 young people engaged in 47 day sails and residential voyages in 2019, with many achieving accreditation, reporting increased confidence and better communication and teamwork abilities.

The judges praised the project for its success in providing vulnerable groups with inclusive and accessible experiential learning opportunities that also taught essential skills.
