Helen Elizabeth Ward-Hughes

Liz has shown a lifetime commitment to supporting youth work in Prestatyn and has been involved in youth work for 49 years. Even though she is now officially retired she continues to engage with young people and the community by remaining involved as a volunteer, including leading the Prestatyn District Environmental agency group who work with schools, youth groups and the local community. 

Throughout her career Liz has been a strong advocate for youth work supporting the right for young people to have their own spaces and decide for themselves what activities should be put on. She has helped countless young people through difficult personal challenges.

Liz is someone who is a passionate advocate for those who do not have a voice themselves, and has a “powerful personality” to stand up for young people. Her colleague said “She is one of the kindest and most generous colleagues that I have ever had the privilege of working with’ 

Young People’s judging panel comments: Judges were impressed that Liz remains committed to youth work after five decades. She has fought hard to keep services open for young people - her passion and dedication to the young people of Prestatyn over such a long period of time is amazing!
