The proposed Order is required to introduce a 40mph speed limit on the relevant lengths of the A487 trunk road at all roundabouts between and including Goat, Meifod, Cibyn and Plas Menai in the interests of road safety at the interfaces with existing roads and pedestrian traffic.

The proposed Order will also derestrict relevant lengths of the A487 trunk road to the national speed limit (60mph), pursuant to the 70mph, 60mph and 50mph (Temporary Speed Limit) (Continuation) Order 1978 (S.I. 1978/1548)) for the continuity of traffic flow along the trunk road network. 

The prohibition of overtaking provided for in the proposed order, is to prevent users conducting dangerous manoeuvres against the flow of two lines of traffic.
