A Cardiff 21-year-old has surprised his peers by continuing with his education through embracing work-based learning, which is seeing him cook up a blossoming career in the kitchen.

Kyle Read admits to being easily distracted in school, but when the opportunity came to become a kitchen apprentice, he grabbed it with both hands.

On completing his Foundation Apprenticeship in Food Production and Cooking with Lifetime Training Ltd, a partner of Cambrian Training Company, Kyle was promoted to junior sous chef.

Kyle’s senior colleagues believe he has all the ingredients for a successful career and that the apprenticeship has turned a once shy teenager into a confident staff member.
