I would like to update Members on where we are with the work of preparing Regulations to make Welsh Language Standards applicable to education bodies.

Today, I am laying the revised Welsh Language Standards Regulations for education bodies before the Assembly.  I have revisited the Regulations rejected by the previous Assembly in March 2016. Following discussions with Assembly Members and sector representatives, I am content that the Regulations laid deals with issues raised during the debate in March 2016.

The Assembly will debate these Regulations in January 2017. If the Regulations are approved, the Welsh Language Commissioner will be able to proceed to issue compliance notices to the bodies named in the Regulations.
