I am today publishing an update to the 2016-17 Provisional Local Government Settlement.  This update takes account of the announcement by the Minister for Finance and Government Business yesterday of £2.5 million of top-up funding for three authorities.

In addition, the update takes account of some minor amendments to the underlying data.

Table 1 outlines the proposed updated distribution of Aggregate External Finance (comprising Revenue Support Grant and redistributed Non-Domestic Rates) and top up funding between the 22 Authorities for 2016 17.

As a consequence of the additional top-up, the Local Government Settlement at £4.1 billion for 2016-17, now represents a decrease of 1.3 per cent (£54 million) compared to the general revenue funding provided for 2015 16.

I will be circulating further details of this update to Authorities so they have the most up-to-date information to allow them to set their budgets for next year.

The Final Settlement will be presented to the Assembly in early March for approval following publication of the Welsh Government’s Final Budget.
