I am today announcing the establishment of a short-term Task & Finish Group to consider links between the Welsh Language and Economic Development.  It will review previous policy and outcomes in this area and will recommend ways in which the Welsh Government and others can develop and deliver a strategy for jointly promoting the Welsh language and economic development.  I have asked to receive a report from the Group by July 2013.

I anticipate that there will be important findings from this Group for Welsh language and economic policy.  The Group’s work will be supported by my officials and by officials from the Welsh Language Unit, and I will be sharing the Group’s recommendations and report with the Minister for Education.

The Group’s membership will include expertise to reflect the specific areas of business and commerce, entrepreneurship, economic development, public policy, and the Welsh Language.  I am delighted that Elin Rhys, managing Director of Telesgôp, has agreed to chair the group.  She will be joined by Martin Rhisiart, Director of the Centre for Research in Futures and Innovation at the University of Glamorgan; Dylan Jones Evans, Director of Enterprise and Innovation at the University of Wales; Elin Pinnell, Partner and Head of Employment Law at Capital Law; Rhodri Llwyd Morgan, Assistant Director for Education and Community Services at Ceredigion County Council; Alun Shurmer, Director of Communications Dwr Cymru and Hywel Wigley, Acapela Studio.
