Welsh Ministers have a duty under section 79 of the Government of Wales Act 2006 to publish a report setting out how the proposals in our Sustainable Development Scheme have been implemented.   This report covers the period April 2011-March 2012 and sets out how we have promoted sustainable development in the exercise of our functions.  It includes an overview of progress against the actions identified from the independent assessment of the effectiveness of the Scheme, carried out by PwC.

I am grateful again to Peter Davies, the Commissioner for Sustainable Futures for the independent commentary he has made on the report.  His assessment and independent perspective has again been helpful in improving the quality of our reporting and we will aim to build on the suggestions he has made.

We will be strengthening this through our legislative programme, and in particular the proposed legislation on sustainable development.  Our proposals will be set out in a forthcoming White Paper.
