I am pleased to advise that the report produced by the RSPCA Cymru and key stakeholders on responsible dog ownership in Wales has now been submitted to the Welsh Government for consideration. It will also be published, with my agreement, on the RSPCA’s website.

The findings of the review which was commissioned in 2015 span a range of different policy areas including Housing, Social Services and Education. It is important that all of the findings are taken into account and I have tasked the Chief Veterinary Officer to work with the policy leads in considering next steps.

I am grateful to the RSPCA Cymru, the Core Group and all of the stakeholders who engaged in this process. Their findings will assist in policy development considerations for the next Government to take forward.

This Review is the culmination of a much wider suite of policies aimed at improving dog welfare in Wales and will signpost possible next steps. Other policies have included new, improved standards for licensed dog breeders and the introduction of compulsory microchipping for all dogs in Wales.
