Jeremy Miles MS, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care
In October 2024 I announced the appointment of an external Ministerial Advisory Group (MAG) on Performance and Productivity in NHS Wales. The MAG, which brought a wealth of experience from across other national health services, was independent from NHS Wales and submitted their report to me on 31 March 2025.
The Group was tasked with providing external assurance on the effectiveness of current arrangements in NHS Wales to improve performance and productivity across the system and views on how the current arrangements could be strengthened to further improve performance and productivity.
I asked the MAG to review the approach to delivery of patient access focusing particularly on planned care, reducing the longest waits, cancer, diagnostics, and urgent and emergency care.
Today I have published the MAG’s report along with the Welsh Government response to the recommendations. I will also be making an oral statement to set out how I intend to take these forward.
I would like to thank Sir David Sloman and the members of the MAG for their hard work and commitment over the past six months.
