This statement provides an update on the recent developments regarding VION UK Ltd’s three Welsh Sites.

2 Sisters Food Group Ltd has announced that it will be purchasing VION's red meat processing facility in Merthyr Tydfil, together with its two poultry units in Llangefni and Sandycroft.

Since VION’s announcement about its intention to exit the UK, we have been working closely with them and 2 Sisters Food Group Ltd to help secure the future of the sites in Wales.  Welsh Government support for this project has been instrumental in realising this outcome, and in safeguarding thousands of jobs and in securing the potential creation of new jobs.

It is encouraging that one of the UK's largest and fastest growing food businesses has decided to invest in these facilities in Wales.  We will continue to work closely with the company to ensure the future of the sites in Wales.

We are also continuing to work with VION UK Ltd and a number of interested parties with a view to achieving a successful purchase of the Welsh Country Foods site in Gaerwen, Anglesey.
