The Welsh Government has a Welsh Language Scheme, which was prepared under section 78 of the Government of Wales Act 2006 and section 21 of the Welsh Language Act 1993. The scheme sets out how the Welsh Government in the provision of services to the public in Wales, will give effect, so far as is both appropriate in the circumstances and reasonable and practicable, to the principle that the Welsh and English  languages should be treated on the basis of equality.

Today, I have agreed to publish the Welsh Language Scheme Annual Report for 2014-15. This will be the penultimate report before we become subject to the Welsh Language Standards in 2016. The report not only outlines the progress we have made in implementing the requirements of the scheme, but also in preparing for the implementation of the new standards.  The report should serve as a clear demonstration of the Welsh Government’s commitment to seeing the language prosper.
