In November 2011, I announced that I was minded to proceed with creating a new Single Body for Wales by bringing together the functions of the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW), the Environment Agency Wales (EAW) and Forestry Commission Wales (FCW).

One of the key steps in moving this process forward was my appointment of Professor Peter Matthews as Chair of the new Single Body, which I announced on 1 August 2012.

I am now pleased to share with you the news that Professor Matthews will today be announcing that he has appointed Dr Emyr Roberts as the Single Body’s Chief Executive Officer.  The appointment will take effect from 1 November 2012.

Emyr is currently Director General of Education and Skills at the Welsh Government.  He has previously held a number of posts within the Welsh Government and has also worked for the National Farmers’ Union.

I welcome Emyr’s appointment to this important position and look forward to working with both Emyr and Peter as they progress our exciting plans to establish this single body to manage Wales’ natural resources. The efficient and effective sustainable use, maintenance and enhancement of the natural resources of Wales are essential for the people of Wales and the Welsh economy.
