In my written statement of 14 October 2014, I announced that I would be commissioning an independent review of the dairy sector in response to the recent cuts in milk prices as well as to consider the effectiveness of the Plan for Milk and the Voluntary Code here in Wales.

Following consultation with my Dairy Task Force for Wales, I am pleased to announce that Andy Richardson, a member of the Dairy Task Force for Wales, has agreed to undertake this important work. Mr Richardson has a wealth of experience in the dairy sector and has been involved in similar high profile initiatives at a UK level.

I expect the review to provide clear strategic direction for the dairy sector across the whole supply chain, offering a series of recommendations that  Government and the industry can put in place to deliver resilience, economic growth and the creation of additional jobs within the industry here in Wales.

I look forward to working closely with Mr Richardson and the Dairy Task Force for Wales during the review process and to receive the completed report in February 2015.
