Following the appointment of Aled Roberts as the Welsh Language Commissioner, I would like to announce that he will step down as Chair of the Welsh in Education Strategic Plans Advisory Board today. I am extremely grateful to Aled for his work in leading on phase two of the WESP review and for establishing an independent Board to advise on changes to the legislation underpinning the planning of Welsh-medium education in line with Cymraeg 2050: A million Welsh speakers.  I wish him well in his new role as the Welsh Language Commissioner.

In order to complete the work of the Board I have asked Dylan Foster Evans who is currently a Board member to step up as the Chair to oversee the completion of the work to which I am grateful to him.

I look forward to receiving the Board’s final report when it has concluded its work and I am grateful to the Board members for their continued support.  I will keep Assembly Members informed of progress.
