I recently issued a statement on the excellent progress made by the newly named Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales following the Mathias review.  In my statement, I set out that the Welsh Government was recruiting a permanent Chief Executive to the Commission, following a period of interim Secretaries.

I can inform Members I have recently considered the recommendation of a selection panel established to select a new Chief Executive to the Commission. Having consulted with the Chair of the Commission, I am able to agree the panel’s recommendation and have appointed Steve Halsall as the Commission’s Chief Executive.

I am sure Mr Halsall’s  experience will be invaluable as the Commission carries out its role under the new legislative framework set out in the Local Government (Democracy) (Wales) Act 2013.
