A £6.8 million application has been made to the UK Government through the new station fund, with the Welsh Government already having met costs to get the project to this stage.

Economy Secretary Ken Skates explained:

“We’ve submitted a strong application for seventy five per cent of the cost of the proposed project, the maximum provided for under the UK Government funding, making clear that we will provide the balance to ensure completion - £1.7 million, including expenditure to date.

“We’ve been working very closely with the local authority, local interest groups and the railway industry to ensure that proposals result in the station and interchange development starting on the ground in April 2018. It will become operational for passengers in 2019.

“Bow Street has a strong economic case, will contribute to growth and employment in mid Wales and will improve access to facilities including Aberystwyth University, Bronglais hospital and the National Library of Wales. The proposed project will also complement the new Aberystwyth University campus development nearby.”
