Overnight domestic GB trips

There were 10.02 million (r) overnight domestic GB trips to Wales in 2018, generating expenditure of £1,853 million (r).

Domestic GB tourism day visits

During 2018 there were 95.7 million Tourism Day visits in Wales. These visits generated expenditure of £4 billion.

International visits

There were 941,000 trips taken in Wales by international visitors during 2018 with an expenditure of £405 million.

Wales accommodation occupancy rates

Average room occupancy rates during 2018:

  • Hotels: 67%
  • Guesthouse/Bed and Breakfast: 35%
  • Self-catering: 56%
  • Hostel: 53%

Wales Tourism Barometer

The most recent wave (May 2019) indicated that 86% of businesses had seen greater or equal levels of visitors compared with the same period in 2018. 85% of businesses expressed confidence for the season ahead.
