Provides local authorities with a practical methodology to undertake a local housing market assessment.

This guidance supplements our 2006 local housing market assessment guide. It sets out a quantitative approach to calculating housing need and an assessment of the local housing market, which can be used consistently across Local Authorities. It aims to help authorities to undertake their own assessment of the housing market and to provide a starting point on which to build a more sophisticated understanding of their local housing markets.

This guide uses the bath water analogy developed by Glen Bramley to assist understanding by non professionals. It contains live links to data sets and secondary data sources.

The appendix also provides an overview of available and useful secondary data sources.
