The CNO is the professional lead for midwifery, health visiting and school nursing practice and education in Wales.

The CNO leads on maternity care and specific elements of early years services, including setting strategic direction and monitoring performance.

Maternity services 

Our vision for maternity services in Wales promotes pregnancy and childbirth as an event of social and emotional significance where women and their families are treated with dignity and respect.

For every mother pregnancy and childbirth will be a safe and positive experience so that she, her partner and family can begin parenting feeling:

  • confident
  • capable; and
  • well supported in giving their child a secure start in life.
