13. Coed Ffos Las

child planting tree at Coed Ffos Las

Coed Ffos Las lies on the lower slopes of the Gwendreath Valley in Carmarthenshire between the villages of Carway and Trimsaran near the Ffos Las racecourse.

About Coed Ffos Las

The site was purchased by the Woodland Trust in 2014 as part of a network of 4 new woodlands across the UK, created to mark the centenary of the First World War.

The new woodland will feature:

  • 90,000 native broadleaves
  • ponds
  • orchards
  • meadow areas planted with Flanders poppy and a commemorative ‘War Horse’ feature.

The site will act as a local nature reserve with the river forming one boundary.

Together with local people and school children, planting of this new woodland will continue until 2018.

It is fitting that the site not only offers an area of remembrance to those who lost their lives in the First World War, but also to celebrate new life through tree planting and the PLANT! project.

Directions to Coed Ffos Las

The woodland is located in Carmarthenshire between Kidwelly and Llanelli. Follow the brown tourist signs to the Ffos Las racecourse from Llanelli or the M4 at Carmarthen. Car parking is within the village until 2017 when a new car park will be built on the site.
