Tŷ-Mawr Lime
Nominated for Business award
Tŷ Mawr Lime Ltd was established by husband and wife Nigel and Joyce Gervis in 1995. After buying Tŷ Mawr, a run-down farmhouse in the Brecon Beacons, in 1993 the Gervises wanted to restore it using traditional lime mortar and plaster but were unable to source them and so using Nigel’s experience, started to make their own; this was the inspiration for their business.
Over the last 25 years, the company has grown and now operates from 3 locations in the Brecon area, employs 23 staff and handles 10,500 orders a year.
Tŷ Mawr Lime is still the only manufacturer of traditional lime based products in Wales and their portfolio of products has expanded to include a wide range of complementary environmentally-friendly building materials including Welsh sheep wool insulation, natural paints, hydraulic limes and cork/woodfibre/ woodwool boards.
They have also been at the forefront of innovation in this field, winning multiple awards for developments such as the sublime floor (alternative to concrete) and lime hemp and glaster plasters (using renewable and recycled components instead of sand).
They provide training in traditional building skills including lime plastering and thatching at their training centre and on client sites.
