The College Merthyr Tydfil’s Inspire to Achieve Team (I2A) are dedicated to ensuring every single learner gets the opportunity to achieve their potential and through strong collaboration with external stakeholders, parents/carers and learners they ensure the success of those who might otherwise become disengaged from learning altogether. The team use a variety of interventions to remove barriers to learning, improve academic performance, personal and social development, life skills and increase attendance so that young people have the chance to gain qualifications to help them progress to higher education, training or employment. The team work in a holistic way with all areas of the college to advocate for and support learners.

The team recently won the ‘Learners’ Engagement in School/College’ award at the Welsh Professional Teaching Awards – a new category that recognises a school or college that has demonstrated an excellent approach to help improve learner engagement and attendance. The Inspire to Achieve team were recognised for their impressive 94% learner completion rate, ensuring the success of those who might otherwise disengage from learning all together. Learners describe the team as helping them feel safe and making a huge difference to their lives. The team plays a key role in the college’s vision to succeed in “Transforming Lives Through Working Together”.
