Peter Radcliffe
Nominated for Business award
Peter Radcliffe has been Chairman of Castalum Ltd in Welshpool for over 20 years. Castalum is an internationally acclaimed aluminium die casting and machining plant and Peter’s leadership has been instrumental to the commercial success of the business, winning contracts for supply into many of the world’s largest vehicle manufacturers – such as Volkswagen, BMW, Ford, Mercedes, Jaguar and Aston Martin. The company employs over 200 staff, making it one of the major manufacturing employers in mid-Wales.
Castalum is known for its innovation and in 2016 won the Cast Metals Federation Company of the of the Year in 2016.
Over the last 5 years, improvement projects across the operation have enabled the company to reduce their CO2 emissions by over 500 tonnes per annum at an investment cost of £4,000,000.
Peter has ensured that the company not only provides well-paid jobs and an apprenticeship programme, but also supports community and environmental initiatives such as the local cycle club and an on-site pond for local wildlife. Tesla is also now a customer.
Although Peter recently retired from the business, the company remains committed to their ethos and sustainability efforts, which benefits the company, their customers and the local community. Environmental efforts are beneficially expanding - latterly they are harnessing process heat to fuel heating on the local school swimming pool.
