Liam Rahman
International award 2019 winner
From Carmarthenshire, as an undergraduate, Liam studied at Yale-NUS College (Singapore) and Yale University (USA), majoring in Philosophy, Politics & Economics (PPE). Liam has also worked in the investment management industry at BW Group and Goldman Sachs, and lived in 6 countries across three continents.
Since returning to Wales in 2017, Liam has continued as a Director of E-Qual Education, a company he co-founded in 2011 now employing over 100 people in Wales. Liam is responsible for further developing E-Qual, across Wales and internationally.
Liam is an avid supporter of The Seren Network (Welsh Government’s flagship initiative to assist pupils to gain places in top universities), for which he mentors students and guides schools to learn more about international opportunities. Liam also serves as a member of Yale’s Alumni Schools Committee (ASC), interviewing for the university’s undergraduate admissions office.
In 2018, Liam initiated and established a partnership between The Seren Network and the Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) programme at Yale University. Last summer, this saw 16 Seren students receive full scholarships to attend YYGS. Liam also raised further sponsorship from his company and others to pay for all Seren students’ flights in full.
The Seren-YYGS partnership is set to almost double in size in 2019. This success has also contributed to the development of additional Welsh Government partnerships with international institutions including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Global Teaching Labs (GTL) Program, that Liam is also overseeing to bring more world-class opportunities to pupils in Wales.
