First Minister's Special Award 2021 winner

Professor Keshav Singhal MBE is a Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon at the Princess of Wales hospital in Bridgend.

He is the Chair of the Covid-19 Risk Assessment group, established in April 2020 at the start of the Coronavirus outbreak, which led to the development of the Covid-19 Workforce Risk Assessment tool.

The Risk Assessment tool was the first of its kind in the UK and allows people working in different sectors to consider their personal risk factors for Covid-19, check if they are at higher risk of more serious symptoms if they come into contact with Covid-19 and gives advice on how to stay safe.

Since its launch at the end of May, the Tool has been completed by more than 90,000 people across Wales.

He is a Governor of the India Centre and Chair of the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO). Through BAPIO, he helped set up a scheme that has brought large numbers of young Indian clinicians to Wales every year.

He is a Council member and Trustee of Swansea University and sits on the Lord Chancellors South Wales Advisory committee.

Recently he was appointed as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland with jurisdiction for Wales.
