Young Person award 2014 winner

Jade Jones MBEJade Jones is the reigning Olympic women’s taekwondo champion in the 57kg class, winning the UK’s first ever Gold Medal in the sport in London 2012.

Born and brought up in Bodelwyddan, Jade first took up taekwondo at age 8 and turned professional in 2010 aged 17, the same year as she became the UK’s first ever Youth Olympic Gold medallist at the inaugural games in Singapore.

A silver medal in World Championships in South Korea followed in 2012, before Olympic triumph a year later aged 19, the youngest UK individual Gold medallist at the Games.

She won BBC Wales Sports personality of the Year in 2012 and was awarded the MBE in 2013. Jade has already been taking sessions coaching taekwondo’s next generation and has the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro as her next target.
