Nominated for Innovation, science and technology award

Assistant Divisional Director for Medicine at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, Dr Inderpal Singh is a visionary leader improving care for older people in Wales.

He received the NHS Wales Award (2017) for his high quality care for patients who suffering from falls and osteoporosis in Caerphilly. In 2020, he was appointed National Clinical Lead for Falls and Frailty.

As Clinical Lead for the Aneurin Bevan Fracture Liaison Service (ABFLS), he developed an innovative digital system identifying and managing fracture patients using data from X-rays, CT and MRI scans. Using automation it helps diagnose osteoporosis earlier.

As lead for Falls and Frailty, he drove up quality and standards across Wales, leading the All-Wales In-patient Falls Network’s set up in 2020, to minimise harm and reduce in-patient falls in Welsh hospitals.

His other achievements include improving blood pressure measurements, discontinuing the use of movement sensors and slipper socks, introducing consistency in using lifting equipment in hospitals. He is developing a pathway for in-patient falls causing suspected head injury.

Dr Singh has been a strong advocate for enhanced bone health in Wales.

His visionary clinical leadership has positioned Wales as the first nation to mandate a universal Fracture Liaison Service.
