Critical (key) worker award 2021 winner

The Cherry Tree Care Home, in Coedpoeth, Wrexham, cares for around 35 residents. In mid-April 2020, 9 carers at the home volunteered to leave their own families for 6 weeks in order to move into the home to look after the residents and keep them safe during the first lockdown of the Coronavirus pandemic, in order to reduce the risk of coronavirus entering the home.

Families of the residents welcomed the selfless act by the staff as any cases of coronavirus could have had a devastating effect on residents of the home. Also, as families were not able to visit the residents, the staff kept families updated regularly about their loved ones.

Gemma Atkins one of the Directors of Cherry Tree Care Home said:

"Words cannot express how very proud and truly grateful we are to these wonderful individuals. Deputy Manager Joanne Mannering and her team are a true inspiration. The selfless dedication and commitment displayed over the past 6 weeks has been amazing.”
