Main points
- The total road length in Wales in 2017-18 was approximately 34,800 km.
- Powys contains the largest road network of the Welsh local authorities. It accounts for the highest proportion of all A Trunk roads (27.3%), B and C roads (21.1%) and minor surfaced roads (12.2%), resulting in an overall 15.8% of the total road length of Wales.
- In 2017-18, 4.9% of the motorway network and 1.8% of the trunk road network required close monitoring of structural condition.
- During 2016-17 Powys had the highest proportion of road network in need of further investigation due to its condition, 18.8%.
