To ensure accountability, value for money and transparency of public bodies, Departments must review their sponsored Non-Departmental Public Bodies (NDPBs) every three years.
The Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) has a UK remit. This review is being undertaken jointly by the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Devolved Administrations. The review will look at whether any reforms would achieve:
- better delivery of high quality nature conservation evidence and advice to Government and JNCC customers resulting in better outcomes for the environment the economy and for society on a sustainable basis
- any strengthening of the governance arrangements to deliver better accountability to UK and devolved governments and the public.
