Main points
- Gross disposable household income (GDHI) per head in Wales in 2016 was £15,835 or 81.5% of the UK average, up 0.1 percentage points relative to the UK average on 2015.
- Wales saw the third lowest percentage increase in GDHI per head out of the UK countries and English regions between 1999 and 2016, up 58.8% compared to a 67.4% increase across the UK.
- Wales saw the seventh largest percentage increase in GDHI per head out of the UK countries and English regions between 2015 and 2016, up 0.7% which is the same increase as the UK. The largest increase was in the East of England (up 1.3%).
- The estimates for 2016 show that GDHI per head in East Wales and West Wales and the Valleys were 86.5% and 78.5% of the UK average, respectively.
- West Wales and the Valleys has seen an increase of 58.0% in GDHI per head since 1999, while East Wales has seen a 59.7% increase, both below the increase for the UK (up 67.4%).
- GDHI per head in Wales in 2016 was the third lowest amongst the UK countries and English regions, ahead of Northern Ireland and the North East.
