This is the latest release
This study investigates the pathways between probation services and substance misuse treatment services in Wales.
Main findings
Of all individuals sentenced to community sentence treatment requirements:
- 83% transitioned into treatment services
- around two thirds were either already in treatment when sentenced or engaged within three weeks
- almost half completed treatment or were still in treatment by the study’s end, with success varying by substance type (drug or alcohol)
- older age groups and those with later sentence dates were more likely to transition successfully and complete treatment
