- Total expenditure for all programme budget categories was £6,381 million or £2,050 per head of the population.
- Total expenditure in 2016-17 was 4.3% higher than expenditure in 2015-16 and 33% higher from a decade ago.
- The largest single programme budget category was spending on mental health problems, which amounted to 11.2% of the total.
- Spending per head of the population on clinical programmes, ranged from £11.16 on hearing problems to £228.79 on mental health problems.
