What we are doing to support and advise the media, broadcasting and publishing industries.

Broadcasting

Although not devolved, we take a keen interest in broadcasting issues that affect Wales. This includes responding to relevant consultations.

We work with public service broadcasters, including BBC Cymru Wales, ITV Cymru Wales and S4C, and with Ofcom. We do not have any regulatory control over what is broadcast by the broadcasters.

We help decide non-executive member appointments to Boards such as S4C and BBC Wales.

Ofcom

Ofcom is the independent regulator for the UK communications industries. These include TV and radio, wireless airwaves, mobile phone operators, and the post.

We are responsible for appointing the Ofcom Board member for Wales. The Ofcom Wales team represents Wales’ interests at the UK level.

The Ofcom Advisory Committee for Wales advises Ofcom on communications matters that affect Wales.

We respond to Ofcom consultations, which are also available on Ofcom.

Publishing

We support the publishing industry in Wales by funding the Welsh Books Council. It also has charitable and commercial functions. Literature Wales receives funding via the Arts Council of Wales.

We reviewed our support for book publishing in 2014.

We commissioned an independent review of our support for publishing and literature in Wales in 2015.
