Horizon Europe is the largest ever transnational programme supporting research and innovation. Run by the European Commission until 2027, it has a budget of £100m.
As well as supporting vital and pioneering research, it will also allow Wales to remain an active and influential partner.
The EU is still in the process of formalising the UK’s association. However, applicants from Wales can begin applying straight away. You do not need to wait for the EU to formalise association.
The UK government has guaranteed funding for the first wave of successful applicants to Horizon Europe who are unable to sign grant agreements with the EU before the UK’s formal association to the programme.
Welsh applicants are eligible for European Innovation Council grants, but not for equity.
Further information on the UK’s participation in the programme can be found in the European Commission Q&A on the UK’s participation in Horizon Europe.
