How to get the NHS COVID Pass to prove that you are vaccinated against COVID-19 or have tested negative.
The NHS COVID Pass lets you share your coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination records and test results in a secure way.
It allows you to prove to others that you have been vaccinated, or that you have had a negative lateral flow test result. This could be for:
- travelling abroad
- attending large events and venues in Wales
- attending events elsewhere in the UK
- showing your employer that you are fully vaccinated and are not required to self-isolate if you’re identified as a contact (excludes household contacts)
It will take up to 14 days after your vaccination before it shows in your NHS COVID pass.
Who can get an NHS COVID Pass in Wales
You can get an NHS COVID Pass if you are aged 16 or over and:
- you were vaccinated in Wales, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland of Isle of Man
- permanently registered with a Welsh GP
- you are not vaccinated but want to use the Pass to show a negative lateral flow test result
If you're unable to get vaccinated for medical reasons
We are working on a system which will automatically update the COVID Pass so people who are unable to get vaccinated for medical reasons are recorded on the system and will be allowed entry to a venue or events.
In the meantime, people who are unable to get vaccinated for medical reasons should show evidence of a negative lateral flow test taken 48 hours before entry to an event.
If you were vaccinated outside the UK
You need to get proof of vaccination from the country where you were vaccinated. Check if you were vaccinated in a country or territory that is on the list of approved vaccination programmes.
If you received one vaccination in Wales and another one outside the UK
We are working with partners on a system to recognise vaccinations administered outside the UK. If your vaccine information is not showing on the NHS COVID Pass you will need to show a recent negative lateral flow test result to enter large events and nightclubs.
How to get an NHS COVID Pass in Wales
You can get your NHS COVID Passes from the NHS UK website. You cannot use the NHS app to get the NHS COVID pass if you live in Wales. The NHS COVID Pass can be downloaded and printed.
You must be:
- aged 16 or over
- registered with a GP in Wales or England
You will need to upload a photo of one of the following:
- full UK driving licence
- full European driving licence
If you do not have photographic ID or a relevant smart device you will need to request a paper NHS COVID certificate.
At the current time there is no COVID pass for under 16s.
Under 18s are exempt from having to show proof of a negative test or vaccination when attending large events or premises.
If you’re travelling abroad you may need to show proof of a COVID-19 test.
We are working with the UK Government to develop a system for under 16s.
At the moment vaccine boosters will not show on the NHS COVID Pass. You do not need a COVID-19 booster vaccination to get an NHS COVID Pass for use in Wales.
If you are registered with a GP in England
If you live in Wales but are registered with a GP in England you can access your vaccination record on the NHS COVID Pass.
NHS COVID Pass expiry date

If your NHS COVID Pass shows a shorter expiry date, it is likely that you have not fully validated your ID on NHS login. You will be given an option to fully validate your ID in order to get a Pass with a longer expiry date
Request a paper NHS COVID Pass
If you need a paper copy of your NHS COVID Pass you can download a pdf of your pass and print it. This will be valid for 30 days. This renews every time you log on and you can print a new copy.
If you are unable to access the digital version or do not have photographic ID, you can request a paper certificate. This paper certificate has been designed for international travel but will be a valid evidence for entering a domestic venue or event. The paper NHS COVID certificate only provides evidence of full vaccination.
Paper certificates can only be issued if:
