How to get the NHS COVID Pass to prove that you are vaccinated against COVID-19 or have tested negative.

Overview

The NHS COVID Pass lets you share your coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination records in a secure way.

It allows you to prove to others that you have been vaccinated, or that you have had a negative lateral flow test result. This could be for:

Who can get an NHS COVID Pass in Wales

You can get an NHS COVID Pass if you are aged 16 or over and:

  • you were vaccinated in Wales or England
  • you are not vaccinated but want to use the pass to show a negative lateral flow test result 

If you were vaccinated outside the UK

You need to get proof of vaccination from the country where you were vaccinated. EU COVID certificates are valid.

If you received one vaccination in Wales and another one outside the UK

We are working with the UK Government on a system to recognise vaccinations administered outside the UK.

How to get an NHS COVID Pass in Wales

Digital COVID Passes must be requested from the NHS UK website. You cannot use the NHS app to get the COVID Pass if you live in Wales.

You must be:

  • aged 16 or over
  • registered with a GP in Wales

You will need to upload a photo of one of the following:

  • passport
  • full UK driving licence
  • full European driving licence

If you do not have photographic ID or a relevant smart device you will need to request a paper NHS COVID certificate.

At the current time there is no COVID pass for under 16s. If you’re travelling abroad you may need to show proof of a COVID-19 test.

If you are registered with a GP in England

If you live in Wales but are registered with a GP in England you may need to access the NHS App service for England as we may not have access to your vaccination record.

NHS COVID Pass expiry date

A digital NHS COVID pass is valid for 30 days. The barcode will update automatically every time you log into the service. This will extend it by another 30 days.

If your NHS COVID Pass shows a shorter expiry date, it is likely that you have not fully validated your ID. You will be given an option to fully validate your ID in order to get a Pass with a longer expiry date.

Request a paper NHS COVID-19 certificate

You should only request a paper COVID Pass if:

  • you have had a full course of the COVID-19 vaccine (you should wait 5 days after your final dose before requesting it)
  • you are aged 18 or over
  • you do not have photographic ID

Call 0300 303 5667 to request a COVID Pass if you are unable to use the digital NHS COVID Pass.

It can take up to 10 working days for a certificate to arrive. No requests can be fast tracked and certificates cannot be collected.

You can call 7 days a week between 9am and 5pm.

Calls are typically charged between 2p and 40p per minute and are included in free call packages.

GPs cannot provide letters showing your COVID-19 status.

Protecting your data

Your COVID-19 post vaccination status letter has been produced and printed with a range of embedded security features to help prevent fraud. If your vaccination status record is incorrect, please contact your local health board.

If your personal details are wrong you will need to contact your GP. Your COVID Pass will only show your first forename and surname.
