Original consultation

We are seeking your views on proposals to reform the current packaging producer responsibility system by introducing extended producer responsibility (EPR).

Consultation description

EPR is an environmental policy approach to a producer's responsibility for their product. EPR extends that responsibility to the post-consumer stage of a product's life cycle. This would include how the product is disposed of.

We are consulting jointly with the UK government, the Scottish Government and the Northern Ireland Executive.

A parallel consultation is taking place a deposit return scheme (DRS) for drinks containers in England and Wales.

We encourage you to look at, and respond to, the DRS consultation as you consider your response to this EPR consultation.

The consultations are being led by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
