Series information:
EMA is a weekly allowance linked to satisfactory attendance, paid fortnightly to eligible students aged 16 to 18.
The data, based on applications received by 31 August 2023, are correct as at 5 October 2023.
Main points
- The number of both applications and approvals has shown a downward trend since 2010/11.
- In 2022/23, 15,545 (88%) of applications received were approved, 1,470 (8%) were rejected and 720 (4%) were incomplete.
- Of the approved applications, 8,155 (52%) were from first year claimants.
