EMA is a weekly allowance linked to satisfactory attendance, paid fortnightly to eligible students aged 16 to 18.
The data, based on applications received by 31 August 2022, are correct as at 4 October 2022.
Main points
- The number of both applications and approvals has shown a downward trend since 2010/11.
- In 2021/22, 17,035 (88%) of applications received were approved, 1,585 (8%) were rejected and 645 (3%) were incomplete.
- Of the approved applications, 8,300 (49%) were from first year claimants.
