The data, based on applications received by 1 September 2020, are correct as at 1 September 2020.
Main points
- The number of both applications and approvals has shown a downward trend since 2010/11; this corresponds with demographic trends.
- In 2019/20, 20,280 (93.3%) of applications received were approved, 775 (3.6%) were rejected and 635 (2.9%) were incomplete.
- Of the approved applications, 10,050 (49.6%) were from first year claimants.
