4. Objectives of the scheme

This plan is in line with the Cymraeg 2050: million speakers’ strategy, which is the Welsh Government's long-term vision for the Welsh language. This strategy consists of 2 main targets:

  • The number of Welsh speakers to reach 1 million by 2050.
  • The percentage of the population that speak Welsh daily, and can speak more than just a few words of Welsh, to increase to 20 per cent by 2050.

5. Purpose of the scheme

The purpose of the scheme is to reach the objectives of the Cymraeg 2050 strategy: one million speakers. The scheme will support a range of activities and interventions that aims to increase the use of Welsh language, create new and confident speakers as well as increase the infrastructure of the Welsh language. It will also support a wide range of organisations with experience of operating in the language planning area across Wales. The total budget is an estimate.

12. Eligibility terms and conditions

This scheme will support a range of organisations that have significant contribution to the language planning field. The scheme will support a range of activities linked to the strategic themes of Cymraeg 2050.

13. Basis for calculating subsidies

The amount of the subsidy will be based on historical allocations and in line with the strategic priorities of Cymraeg 2050 and in accordance with grant funding guidelines. The support will normally be up to 70% of eligible costs.
