While the Community Facilities Programme will be available throughout Wales, it has been refocused this year to give priority to projects that:

  • are in Communities First areas;
  • will continue to deliver Communities First services; or
  • are otherwise part of the Communities First legacy.

An extra £4 million per year over the next four years has been made available for the programme between 2017 and 2021. The programme will also offer grants at two levels; up to £25,000 is available for small projects than can be completed this financial year and up to £250,000 towards larger projects which will create sustainable community facilities fit for the future.

Announcing the re-opening of the Community Facilities Programme, the Cabinet Secretary said:

“We have refocused the Programme to help protect valuable community facilities in former Communities First areas to ensure the lasting legacy of the Communities First Programme.”

“The Community Facilities Programme aims to breathe new life into buildings that are truly at the heart of their communities and will help ensure they can generate new sources of revenue to fund their valuable role in improving the lives of the people who use them.

“These facilities provide a huge range of important services, to young and old and space for groups to come together. The funding will enable these projects to expand their work further, throwing open their doors to even more people in the local community.”
