Summary
Project status: under construction
Region/county: Conwy
Start date: summer 2020
End date: autumn 2020
What we are doing
Improving traffic flows, safety and journey time reliability across the roundabout of junction 19, A55 Glan Conwy as well as improving active travel links across the junction.
Why we are doing it
This scheme (known locally as Black Cat) is part of the all Wales pinch point programme that will reduce congestion at junctions and improve journey time reliability and safety on the motorway and trunk road network.
This scheme will be delivered by the North and Mid-Wales Trunk Road Agent (NMWTRA) who work on behalf of Welsh Government and commission local consultants and contractors where possible. We will work with NMWTRA and Conwy County Borough Council to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum during construction of the scheme.
Current progress
We have completed the full business case, stage 3 of the Welsh Government Transport Appraisal Guidance (WelTAG) and have now started construction in stage 4.
Timetable
Completion of WelTAG stage 2 outline business case and identification of preferred option : spring 2020
WelTAG stage 3 full business case and detailed design for preferred option: winter 2019
WelTAG stage 4 construction: summer 2020
WelTAG stage 5 post construction benefits realisation: winter 2020
Next steps
This project began in June and should be complete later this year.

The consultation took place autumn 2019.
