Minister for Economy and Transport, Ken Skates has announced the appointment of 3 new members to the Careers Choices Dewis Gyrfa (CCDG) Board, trading as Careers Wales.
Careers Wales, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Welsh Government, provides an all age, impartial, bilingual, careers information, advice and guidance service.
The newly appointed board members are:
- Dr Taslima Begum
- Mr David Hagendyk
- Mr Richard Thomas
Their appointments will run from 1 February 2020 for a 3 year period.
The post of a CCDG Board Member is an unpaid voluntary position with an annual commitment of a minimum 10 days.
All 3 appointments have been made in accordance with the Governance Code on Public Appointments.
New CCDG Board Members:
Dr Taslima Begum has an extensive background in Design, Computing, Media and Arts. She is currently a Senior Lecturer in Computing in the School of Technologies at Cardiff Metropolitan University and a User-centred Design Researcher with PDR (research institute within Cardiff Metropolitan University). Taslima has previously worked as a visiting lecturer at the University of South Wales, teaching a number of subjects on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
David Hagendyk is the Director for Learning and Work Institute Cymru, delivering the research and development programme, engagement with stakeholders in government and the wider post-16 sector, securing funding and staff development. David has over 20 years’ experience of working in Welsh public life, with a strong background in politics and experience of policy development.
Richard Thomas has an extensive career in higher and further education, following 10 years in the manufacturing industry. He has held roles including engineer, project manager, senior lecturer, Dean of Faculty, college Provost and university Assistant Vice Chancellor. He has been involved in numerous collaborative industrial research projects and national education bodies, including; membership on the Teaching Excellence Framework board. Richard has also been active in publishing papers on engineering, manufacturing and STEM education since 2001.
