Alexandra McKenzie - Volunteering Matters

Alexandra volunteers on the Volunteering Matters’ SAFE programme; a programme designed to deliver personal safety awareness workshops for those with additional learning needs (ALN). As a peer-educator, Alexander has delivered workshops about issues such as healthy relationships, sexual health and LGBTQ+ awareness in youth-work settings across Gwent to over 200 young people with ALN.

As a young woman with ALN herself, she feels incredibly strongly about empowering young people with ALN through education about sex so that they can make informed decisions and safeguard themselves.

This category was judged by panel of young people who were impressed with how Alexandra has worked tirelessly on what they said are “issues that have specific contemporary relevance to young people today”.
