I am pleased to confirm that on 1 April, the functions, assets and staff of the Powysland, Lower Wye and Caldicot and Wentlooge Levels Internal Drainage Boards (IDB) were transferred to Natural Resources Wales, following a commitment that the Government made in November 2013. I would like to thank everybody involved in NRW and the IDBs for the support, professional approach and hard work that they have put into making this work.

NRW management of Internal Drainage Districts in Wales joins up water level, conservation and flood risk management in key areas. We expect this to improve consistency of approach across the country and provide a good quality system of management as well as increasing resilience during flood events.

The changes have also had the effect of transferring audit oversight for all IDB functions in Wales to the Wales Audit Office.
