While we cannot predict the weather in the coming months, we know that winter poses even greater difficulties and hardship for those who sleep rough in our communities. I am committed to doing more to help them and I am therefore making £100,000 available for local authorities to provide rough sleepers with extra assistance in cold weather.

Local authorities can apply for a share of the funding which will enable them to target services and support based on local needs. We will expect local authorities to work in partnership with voluntary sector organisations to provide appropriate support for rough sleepers and, where possible, help them resettle into permanent housing.

I am very pleased to be able to make this funding available. It reflects the importance we attach to helping rough sleepers, in line with our Ten Year Homelessness Plan.

This funding is another example of this Government’s commitment to helping the most vulnerable people in our communities.
