The Welsh Government is continuing to invest in the education and training of healthcare professionals despite the challenging financial climate. This reflects the importance of the development of the NHS workforce and ensuring the health service has staff it needs now and into the future.

We will continue to invest in the workforce required to respond to the current and future challenges the NHS faces.

I have agreed£294.22m to support health professional education and training in Wales for the academic year 2025-26 – this will support and maintain the commissioning numbers based on those agreed in 2024-25.

Last year, was the first time we increased the number of places available for healthcare professional education and training, compared to the number of places that were filled. The investment for 2025-26 will continue this.

I am very proud of our record on investing in education and training to support and sustain the NHS workforce in Wales.

The NHS today has more people working in it than at any time in its history as we focusing on prevention and care in every community in Wales.
