We attended the Inter-Ministerial Group for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs on 13 September.

We discussed the independent National Food Strategy Review by Henry Dimbleby and agreed to collaborate in areas which would benefit the whole of the UK.

George Eustice MP, Secretary of State for Defra outlined the result of Defra’s consultation on gene editing. We made it clear that the Welsh Government considered gene editing to be genetic modification and are against deregulation in this area.

We discussed the latest position on the Common Frameworks Programme, border checks and SPS, the UK Government’s fisheries funding and the planned UK Agricultural Partnership.

A communiqué regarding this meeting is available on the UK Government website: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/communique-from-the-inter-ministerial-group-for-environment-food-and-rural-affairs/
